I don't believe there is an "official" urtext of the Sibelius concerto (like a Barenreiter or Henle). Does anyone know how many of the bowings (if any) in the usual editions like International or Schirmers are actually Sibelius' rather than the various editors?
Since he was a violinist I was wondering how much information he put into the solo part. For example, I've never cared for the repeated down bows in measure 8 of the third movement (and where the passage recurs later). Did he write these or an editor? (of course, even if Sibelius wrote it doesn't mean one has to do it)
I think you will have some kind of an "Urtext" if you check the violin solo part in a partitur.
The "Urtext' that is currently available is:

April 14, 2012 at 04:36 AM · Sibelius's Concerto actually include two versions; the first one is the original, uneditted and unmodified, and evidently quite different from what we know today. I know you can get the music for that (I got it from a library once); Kavakos made a recording of it. The music is licensed, however, to the Sibelius' estate, and cannot be performed without permission.
The regular version... I've never seen an urtext, and Barenreiter doesn't have it. There is a manuscript in Sibelius Museum in Helsinki, but that's about it.
