Hey, can anyone help me find a really really good violin teacher near buffalo grove that will really push you and bring out the best musician in you?
On another note I am also looking for a violin teacher (can be the same person or different) who can help with improvisation and repetoire other than classical? Can anyone help? Thanks!
If you can make the drive, check with universities that have music departments. There are a few big names that teach at conservatories. Depending on the level, they might be able to recommend their students to you as teachers (they usually are cheaper).
A lot of CSO members teach as well to supplement their income. Music world is very connected, so yanking a string will bring you a tangle of people.
Does anyone know "Steven Palincsar "? How is his teaching
I don't know him, but his website looks pretty serious. His entrance criteria for students looks similar to Julliard......I suspect his prices aren't far off either.......I assume his target customers is not students looking to get into music school, if his criteria is same.
Does any one know Steven Maloney?

a couple of suggestions. you can check out music institue of chicago. i beleivve they have a location in highland park. specifically Reagan Brasch is quite good. a piano teacher friend of mine sent her daughter to her, adn was quite happy with her. Reagan is quite enthusiastic, and i can see her working well with kids. also, you can contact solo classic violins on half day road, near dominicks. they have 4 teachers there. hopefully Dani can suggest a teacher for you. i live in BG, but my teacher is retiring/moving in a year. Seman violins in skokie maintains a list of violinists for improv, you can contact them. another suggestion is to contact clark chaffee at stevenson hs. he is the orchestra director. email is cchaffee@d125.org. he should have some impartial, educated suggestions. good luck, and nice to see others in this forum living in the area. let me know what happens, i need a new teacher in about a year.
