Opinion on Howard Core Carbon FIber Cases

February 11, 2012 at 11:16 PM · I am set on putting my double violin/viola case aside, and getting a couple carbon fiber cases. I can get the Core Carbon Fiber cases at a great price (Looks like they are the old HIMA cases). Does anyone have experience with this case, or other carbon fiber cases?

I wouldn't recommend a bam carbon fiber case as a primary case they aren't very sturdy but are light as a feather and clean easily with windex. i've actually seen one deteriorate form daily use within 2 years. Numerous scratches and bow spinner issues for that price you might as well get a discountiuned musafia.

February 14, 2012 at 06:41 PM · I just ordered them for the violin, and viola. I will put a review once I get some use out of them. I made sure to get the newest model because it has a music pocket built into the case which look great.

February 14, 2012 at 07:16 PM · Also, I would not say to go with Musafia for that price. The Core Carbon Fiber cases are under $500, and the Musafia's are usually over a $1,000

February 14, 2012 at 11:40 PM · Where are you getting the cases from? I was considering purchasing one for violin to use in lieu of my Musafia for everyday use (I carry my violin between the same two or three buildings multiple times every day).

February 15, 2012 at 04:18 PM · I'm getting it from McCourt's Music in Waterford, MI. If you search in "Howard Core Carbon Violin Case" you should get a good amount of site like this (http://beststudentviolins.com/Core_cases.html). It looks like that model is changing. I will be getting the violin model shown, and the new viola model. I will put up a review with pictures in a week, or two when I get it.

February 17, 2012 at 02:37 AM · Ok, I got one in today, and promptly returned it. It first had a big sticker that said "Made in China" on the case. The carbon weave, was only printed on (You could see the pixels). It was suppose to be the nicer violin model with more padding, and a music pocket build into the case, but it was not. The best part was that it was missing a ring to hook a shoulder strap on (It literally was just not installed). I ordered a viola one last week, but said for them not to ship it. I think I am just going to get a BAM (Maybe a Gewa).

February 17, 2012 at 03:07 AM · Hmmm...I have a Core double violin carbon fiber on back order. Now I'm getting concerned. The "made in China" part is of no concern to me, but the superficial weave, etc. is. I've heard that when Core has things on long back order they may be looking to improve or update, I don't know...

February 17, 2012 at 03:21 AM · A couple of the violists here at my school have the HIMA carbon fiber case and they seem to be pretty satisfied with it. No idea about the regular Core (non-HIMA) cases, though.

Is this the case you ordered?

February 17, 2012 at 03:50 AM · Yup, that is the one. It is really bad. There was nothing positive about the case.
