Hey! Happy New Year, everyone!
My aunt is getting married next summer, and therefore I was wondering; can I play Czardas - Monti in a wedding?
At the moment I've played for a little bit more that 1,5 years, so I don't have the biggest repertoire, and personally I LOVE Czardas, I think it's a wonderful piece, BUT is it properly to play it in a wedding?
I just want you guys' opinion. :)
Thanks!
The repertoire is generally decided by the bride and groom (or at least, give the opportunity). I can't think of any pert of the actual ceremony where Czardas would be appropriate, but it could be at the reception. We sometimes play Hungarian Dance No. #, which people really like.
Hi - I think you mean "proper". Anyway, not for the ceremony, but at some point during the reception, sure!
I think it depends on what kind of wedding. Normally Czardas would be frowned upon in Catholic churches. If the wedding is more informal and outside or in the court, it could be ok if the bride and groom want it included in the music. If the wedding is in a church, check with the pastor first because some churches have rules about what kind of music can/can't be played there.
I would ask your aunt. Brides tend to have the final word when it comes to wedding planning.
Weddings are such a bore. It would certainly spice things up if you played it while the bride is coming down the isle. It might make her walk faster and that will shorten the ceremony. I vote YES!
Smiley - I like it!!
My suggestion would be though to play the Beethoven Funeral March ...
Call me a cynic? No, I'm a Romantic ...
Thanks for the responses. And if I'll play it, it wont be in the church, but after the ceremony.
I'll play it for my aunt and asks what she thinks. :)
Thanks again!

January 3, 2012 at 10:05 PM · The Monti Czardas is a wonderful piece. The answer to your question might depend on at what point during the wedding or reception you played it. Also, it might depend on how well you know the people in the wedding. It might well be played at some point in a wedding in Eastern Europe, but it might not be appropriate for a wedding where you live.
