Charles Ervin Bows?

December 9, 2011 at 04:58 PM · Here's hoping someone out there may be familiar with Charles Ervin of Austin, TX. I've been looking to buy a bow recently and I like what I'm reading on his website about the bows that he makes... if anyone owns a bow by him, or has tried one, I'd greatly appreciate a review. Thanks!

December 9, 2011 at 07:05 PM · Several years ago I had a chance to use one of Charles' bows for a weekend rehearsal and concert. It was a real eye opener, to say the least. Playing with it was effortless and the tone was beautiful. Nothing I've tried before or since quite compares. The bow itself- wood, frog, winding- was exquisite. Much to my disappointment, I just couldn't afford to buy it. (I did consider bank robbery, selling a kid, the dog, or the husband to swing it, but nothing seemed feasible.)

I may have assumed more than was warranted from an allusion to engineering he made in the text of his website... on the other hand he might be an engineer; I just have no way of knowing... and violinist.com gives me no access to change the text of the summary...

February 7, 2012 at 05:37 PM · HI, I had the pleasure of meeting him yesterday and look at one of his bows that he was making, as well as a violin of his. Very knowledgeable person and confident of his work. The responsiveness of the bow was impressive. I think someone well worth looking at for either a bow or violin.
