Student Recital Etiquette Question - to bring a gift or not?

November 27, 2011 at 11:25 PM · Normally I have held my student recitals in a community room to help keep down the costs of renting out a facility. However, my "rooms" were unavailable this winter and I had to find another option.

I put the word out to my students families that we were looking for a facility in case they knew of something. A new family of mine jumped forward and volunteered their house for the recital. It's a beautiful, huge place on a lake and they said that they loved to host various events ie. art galleries, piano recitals, etc. and that they really wanted to do it, so I accepted.

My dilemma. Should I ask the families of my other students bring a hostess gift of sorts for the family, or some other thank you gift? Should I be providing a thank you gift of some kind? My mother taught me etiquette but she never covered this scenario. :-) Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Bev

November 28, 2011 at 10:25 PM · Hi there,

I think it would be nice if you offered a gift to the host as you would in any dinner party. A simple gift of appreciation would be much appreciated since the host had to prepare the place and other stuff.

Or you could invite them to contribute to one (nicer) present which you would choose, and they could sign a card.
