What is to be said of a violin that is made in Korea to a local luthier's specifications?
The instrument costs around $1100, and has a wonderful sound (I'm a beginner).
The luthier told me it is an advanced student instrument and will take me quite far.
Can you right the Korean name on a piece of paper and upload the picture? I can translate it.
All it says is that it's made in korea for a montreal luthier
Probably menas that the luthier buys in Korea for $ and sells in Canada for $$$$.
That "luthier specifications" probably means nothing, it is only marketing.
does it makes sense then that it's $1000???

I doubt that anyone here can give the violin a fair assessment without seeing it. You said that the instrument "has a wonderful sound," so it seems that it was worth the money to you until you realized that it was Korean-made...
My Chinese violin cost me more than $1K, and an average South Korean earns 5 times the wage of an average Chinese, and 44% of an average Canadian, based on the exchange rates. However, I suspect that the price has less to do with how much it costs at the origin, but how much the dealer can charge and get away with it.
it's an advanced student instrument.
i just don't like the idea of it because usually they depreciate.
