Looking for a light case...

February 1, 2011 at 07:46 PM ·

I need to buy a light case--my 8 lb Bobelock is becoming to hard on my arms. So far, the discussions here have pushed me away from a BAM, sighed at the thought of having a Musafia, and left me bewildered by the vast quantity of cases out there on the market. Are there any suggestions of a case that weighs less than 5 lbs and has reasonable protection? I'm leaning towards an Artonus Elipe or a Shar Super-Lite...does anyone here have any experiences with them? Thanks!

bump:  Artonus Elipe  www.swstrings.com/catalog/showCaseGroup.jsp

I'm looking at this case, as well.  Any happy owners out there?  Any bummed owners out there?

I can't even figure out if there is any suspension padding for the body.  It looks like just the magnetic catch for the neck.  ???

Have you tried to contact the manufacturer?

I've been using Artonus Cadem for many years for my electric and had no problems with it at all, not even a loose thread. The quality and craftsmanship is great.

I'm looking at this violin case but is there anyway of obtaining a blue/black color one? and are there any reviews about it? I'm worried about the bow clip thing and the magnetic strap (i had problems with magnetic straps on my first every GIG violin case; looks like a surf board)...

One of my son had an Artonus Elipe case for two years and had recently replaced it with a Musafia case.  Artonus Elipe case was extremely well designed with very light weight and lots of useful spaces.  We were worried about the bow clip scratching the tip of the bow, but the snug bow clip kept the bow safe without scratching it.  The only weakness the case had was all the metal handles for the zippers.  Every handle broke and my son had such hard time opening and closing the case. I have to admit my son is very rough in handling his case.  Several people I know have had the case longer than him and are very happy with the case.

You can find only green and brown in US but can order them from Europe in all colors.  I have seen green, brown, blue, and red ones so far.  Blue and Red ones are beautiful.

You might consider the new fabric BAM case.

March 17, 2011 at 02:02 PM · it was mentioned that many people don't like the bam cases. any details as to why? or which models? i have the bam classic. i like its simplicity, fabric cover material, and overall construction. i still do after 9 years. I thought many cases had hardware (hinges, handles, snaps), that would be prone to breakage. i can't comment on the bam composite cases. I am refering to cases in the 300.00 price range as a comparison

I have a four year old Bam hightech contoured that's starting to show signs of serious wear - the shell is horribly scratched and is beginning to crack, the handle is beginning to come off, the bow spinners are loosening, and the velcro neck restraint is starting to come loose. However, it's still perfectly functional (I just put some duct tape over the crack in the outer shell), and I was extremely satisfied with this case, though I wish the accessory compartment were more like a traditional one, instead of being detachable and having a bothersome zipper closure (although the advantage of this was that none of my accessories ever escaped the pouch).

Also stunning design. Let me know if you're interested. Thank you
