I need a good reliable place, as a go to place for my violin repairs and needs...
Any suggestions?
Take the Long Island Rail Road out into Manhattan; you can then take the 1 train to every single one of the major New York City violin shops and repairmen.
Go to the Long Island Violin Shop in Huntington. I've been going to Charles Rufino for all of my violin needs since I began violin playing and that was 19 years ago! He's a well respected luthier and a student of Carl Becker's. I don't think there's a better shop in Long Island.

I've been taking my instruments to David Herman over in East Meadow for years. Always does nice work, and I've always had my instrument back in my hands within a day or two.
I grew up on L.I. and used Charles Rufino a few times, but the main person that did most of my work for me was Barry Griffin I believe his name was. He always did great work....not too far off the LIE if I remember correctly.

Where in Long Island? I think you're close enough that you may want to come into the city if you have a really nice instrument. I know most students I know at Stonybrook do that.
Cheers,
