I've read through most of the past threads and I'm still not sure which published edition would be the best. I'd rather not have to correct a lot of notes and markings. Thanks.
Gary
Hi,
There are two editions available. The Schirmer Edition contains the text as originally published, with Ysaÿe's original bowings and fingerings, but it contains a number of known errors/omissions. The Henle does not really rectify all of these but does contain fingerings and bowings by Frank Peter Zimmerman in addition to Ysaÿe's markings, but many of the errors are not corrected - for example, the ostinato as the opening of the Sarabande of #4 should be played twice before the piece begins, but even in the Henle, this correction does not appear.
Joseph Gingold did have a corrected part of the sonatas, with the corrections in Ysaÿe's own hand writing done when he studied with him, but it was never published and disappeared at the time of his death; what a tremendous lost for scholarship. However, Yuval Yaron's recording was done with a corrected part taking the markings from Gingold. It can serve as a reference.
Cheers!

Why not just download them for free at IMSLP, rather than paying for it? (Unless you want the Urtext with all the mistakes.)
Thank you.

Eugène Ysaÿe (July 16, 1858 – May 12, 1931)
Since this work was first published after 1922, it is highly unlikely that this work is public domain in the USA. However, it is in the public domain in Canada (where IMSLP is hosted), the EU, and in countries where the copyright term is life+70 years or less.
IMSLP does not assume any sort of legal responsibility or liability for the consequences of downloading files that are not in the public domain in your country.
That was a "thank you to all". I was tempted but I didn't download from IMSLP.
