For as long as history can reveal, the violin has had two sides. The romantic and the horrific. I'd like to explore the horror/scary side a tad more. What are some MOVIES where the violin's solo carries a horrific undertone?
I'll start...
Sweeney Todd (When Mrs. Lovett starts to sing her part in "Not While I'm Around.")
The Village (Not really a horror movie, but it had some scary parts.)
What about Schindler's list. We all know the theme but the violin is also used to create horror effects in some scenes if I remember well.
Anne-Marie
Young Frankenstien... When Frau Blücher (was that a horse?) was playing to the moster!
Obviously, the music by Bernard Herrmann for Alfred Hitchcock's film Psycho.
I've been told that the screeching and scraping violin sound used in the shower scene is what people who live next door to a beginner violinist have to put with :(
Wasn't it David Nadien that played the violin in Young Frankestein?
What about Dr. Zhivago?
The Red Violin.

I don't remember exactely the name of that movie, but it was one about vampires. In one scene , a man and his daughter are attracted to a beautiful melody played on a violin , and they stay to listen to it mesmerized. Than , it turns out that the player was a sinistre vampire , who then kills them. Pretty scarry.( But the melody played was superb, really)
