A number of my orchestra colleagues have really, really lightweight music stands, which they either bought while on tour in Japan, or asked someone who was going to Japan to buy them one. Does anyone know how and from where I can order one of these feather-light things? I am in Europe.
Thanks
Teresa,
It might be the new folding stand by Yamaha, the same company that makes pianos.

I've also been looking for a lightweight stand. The Yamaha AL303, sold in the US is under 2 lbs but it's a 2 piece stand. I just ordered the R.A.T. Scherzo which is 1.9 lbs, has a carrying case (1.11 lbs in the case) and is one piece. I can let you know how it is when I get it. The company's website lists where it is sold including Europe. (200g - really??? I think that's less than .5 lbs, right?)
Greetings,
sorry I haven@t looked into this. Here is my limited experience with Yamaha collapsible stands. I bought the cheapest one I coul;d for my studio. It is certainly light but it is way to short so it is no good for adults even with the base set so it is teeteting on feet almost together.
So all I can suggets is check the height...
Anybody wnats to go stand huntng in Japan is welcome to shack up at my place. Note that I have a cat though.

yeah, there happens to be a titanium Yamaha stand that the viola professor at IMIF (International Music Institute and Festival) uses. I dare say it's the lightest I've ever come across. I looks similar to the aluminum Yamaha but it's lighter.
Considering the price of titanium fine tuners, it probably costs 15,000 $.
Hi,
My R.A.T. Scherzo stand arrived today and it's pretty good. I weighed myself without and then with the stand and there was about a 1.5 lb difference. That makes it significantly lighter than my other portable stand. I'm happy. If anyone finds a stand that's sturdy enough yet is less than 1 lb, I'd be interested. Thanks.
Thanks for replies so far .... I called a friend who has a stand bought in Japan .. I believe it is a Yamaha OHASHI and it weighs 580g .. which is probably c 1 lb and therefore lighter than the R.A.T Scherzo. I 'm going to try and call another friend who I am convinced has an even lighter stand than this! ( I remember having to hold it down during an outdoor concert and there was some very light wind!)

Not even Buri???????????????
They weigh less than 200g. If you can't get them in the US then someone should start a business!!! They'd make a mint!
