HELP WITH ROTH VIOLIN LABELS

December 6, 2007 at 07:52 PM · HELP!

I know Roth violins have been discussed ad nauseum but I really need some advice: The '21 Roth I am thinking about buying has this label---

Ernst Heinrich Roth (heavy Germanic block script in a slight arc)

Markneukirchen I/S

anno l921 (the 21 in ink)

copie: Antonius Stradivarius

It is a paper label---approx 1" by 2 1/2."

There is no reference to any particular Strad model. And there is no "brand" in the wood.

Through the treble F hole is the number 34, written in pencil.

Does anyone know if this is a common label for this period? Or does it signify any particular quality level of Roth's work?

Or---most importantly---has anyone seen or heard of a bogus Roth label?

Much appreciated

Craig
