I recently contacted Mr. Cormier regarding an instrument trial (I read on his website that Kyung Wha Chung uses one of his instruments, and he was recommended on this website, so I was very interested). His price for violins (12K CDN is what I was told by him) is perfect for my price range, so I gave him the go ahead to ship me an instrument. It should be here sometime early next week. I would just like to have some input regarding the violin in terms of financial investment (appreciation), and your guys' further opinions on his instruments before it arrives. I will take the instrument to my teacher/luthier to have it taken a look at and appraised. Thanks.
Bobby,
Many Montrealers (students and professionals) play on Cormier instruments and are very satisfied with them. I'm afraid I can't tell you much about return because I don't know anyone who's tried to sell theirs.
Bobby,
He makes great violins... I know so many people who use them. However, I wouldn't get one just because Kyung Wha Chung has one. Like most famous violinists and their modern instruments, they hardly ever touch them (if ever). She has 2 del Gesus and a Strad... what do you think she's going to reach for?
I think you should look into Cormier because it's a very good violin and the price is also low. For reselling, you'd have to do it in Montreal. In fact if you ever wanted to sell it, I'd just give it to M. Cormier and he could sell it for you, since there's quite a market there for his instruments.
thanks pieter - i do realize that, but i thought that maybe if she bothered to buy one/own one, it is at least decent.
the violin gets hre soon, its so hot outside... around 90-100... i wonder if the violin will be damaged by the weather...
Hi,
Bobby - his violins are very nice and have a beautiful sound! I have been playing one of his violins as my instrument for the last 10 years, and I can honestly say that I am lucky to have it.
Cheers!
