I have seen a few Violin Case Covers. Please comment on the durability if you have tried them.
"Cushy, Mooradian or something else" My friend bought herself a Cushy where she found it a bit too tight for her Musafia Luxury Case.
Secondly, since I will be looking for a Back-Pack Straps and Shoulder Straps, please comment on those durability as well.
Thanks people
I've had a Cushy for 14 years. The same one. It's absolutely bulletproof. They do fit tightly at first (I use mine on a Jaeger case), but will break in. The only thing I didn't like was the fabric handle straps-not very comfortable. I cut them off and carry the case by the Jaeger handle instead. Also, I put on an Orvis luggage strap which is padded. Overall, a great cover.
Lucky you, Scott, thx for your comment
Has anybody used "Mooradian case cover", it looks sturdy and it has backstraps and shoulder straps as well.
Oh, anybody got a good strap to minimise the weight of the case?
I have a Mooradian case cover that I've used for almost 10 years. It's super durable and the superior padding has saved my case tons of wear! My case still looks brand new on the outside! The fabric "handles" don't bother me because I mostly use a super padded, curved shoulder strap from REI to carry it with.
What shoulder strap do others use? Rei doesn't have the strap you talked about?? Has anybody tried the Shoulder strap from Sharmusic?
"Case Sling - Adjustable Padded Neoprene Case Strap"
I tried the so called "S.O.S. STRAP", it was good at the strap but the pin that hold the hinge broke and my case fell, luckily the violin was ok.
Does anyone know where Hilary Hahn found those colorful bands to go around the outer case? I'd love to get a set of those for myself! :)
Once, at the Manhattan School of Music, I saw somebody carrying a Musafia case with an unusual case cover. It was made of the same material as most other case covers, but gaps in the cover allowed usage of the case's original handle, subway strap, and access to the D-rings. Not as protective, but allowing for more regular use of the violin case.
I've used a Cushy case cover for the past 18 years, starting back when you could buy an American Case that had a fully integrated Cushy cover. I'm still using that case, and both the interior and exterior have worn like iron.
I've since bought external Cushy covers for two oblong cases I sometimes use for travel. One case is a touch snug in the Cushy; the other is a bit loose. Both did fit after a bit of fiddling.
The Cushy cover is fabulous at providing extra thermal and shock protection to your case. However, it also plumps up your case quite a bit and makes a typical violin case as fat (and long) as a typical viola case. As much as I need it on plane trips, I don't use the Cushy cover these days for fear that my violin will be classified as an "oversized" luggage item I'll be forced to check.
I don't find the backpack straps particularly comfortable, but they do get the job done.

March 21, 2007 at 07:55 PM · Oh, I forgot to add in the Hilary Hahn's part, I have seen her with her violin case covered with a much bigger violin case cover and strapped up with two coloured straps. As she mentioned in her lastest dvd portarit that she doesn't like the violin to bump around during flights.
