"Sam Battista is currently a third year violinist at the Chicago College of Performing Arts. He grew up in DeKalb, Illinois; a western suburb of Chicago, where he started studying the violin at a young age. During middle school and high school, Sam won top prizes in many competitions; including 1st place in the Rockford Symphony Concerto Competition playing Barber’s Violin Concerto, and 1st place in the Senior Strings division of the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s Chandler competition. Sam also served as concertmaster of multiple orchestras and groups in the Rockford area before coming to Chicago. He came to study at the CCPA with Robert Chen, concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and later Yang Liu, who has been dubbed the most important Chinese violinist of his generation.
