CURRICULUM VITAE:
Born in Romania, of Hungarian origin, Janos Nagy started his music studies at Satu Mare School of Music in 1962 studying with Eugene Simon, a Hubay´s pupil, graduating with top marks in 1974. He went on to study at the Conservatory 'G.Dima' (Cluj) under the direction of Ferenç Balogh and Stefan Ruha, where he was awarded the Diploma with honours in violin and viola in 1979.
In 1981 he became concertmaster of the 'G.Dima' Philharmonia in Brasov, and at same time first violin of the 'G.Dima' String Quartet and Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra. Throughout these years he led an intense professional career, recording for television, radio and record companies. He gave numerous concerts and recitals as soloist with all the Rumanian symphony orchestras. In 1977, he organized an European 'grand tour' in which played in Paris and contributed with a wide repertory ranging from the great concert pieces by Bach to those by Bela Bartok.
From 1988 he lived in Vienna, where his professional career continued as he played with the Haydn Sinfonietta, and the Wiener Kammerorchester under the direction of Philippe Entremont. In Vienna he continued to develop his musical expertise under the guidance of the emminent maestro Sandor Vegh. Up until 1990 he was assistant concertmaster of the St. Gallen Stadtisches Orchester; until 1992, concertmaster of the Luzern Stadtisches Orchester; until 1993 concertmaster of the Zürich Symphonisches Orchester. Since 1993 he has been resident in Granada, Spain, playing occasionally with former Prague String Quartet´s first violin and Prague Hochschüle Professor Bretislav Novotný. Since 1997, he is Violin Professor at the Royal Conservatory 'Victoria Eugenia' in Granada, Spain, commanding a wide repertory for violin and viola.
