Telemann: Violin Concertos
Isabelle Faust, violin
Academie für Alte Musik Berlin, Bernhard Forck conducting
Violinist Isabelle Faust has taken on some gems from the works of the Baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) - whose output included some 125+ concertos. Among them is his humorous Violin Concerto in A Major, "Die Relinge" or "The Frogs" - in which a rather conventional sounding tutti introduction gives way to the soloist, croaking like a frog, then joined by what sounds like a pond full of them. The Romantic Room: Chamber Works by Spohr
WDR Sinfonieorchester Chamber Players
The Romantic Room is a six-volume box set by the WDR Sinfonieorchester Chamber Players that features the chamber music of the early 19th-century violinist Louis Spohr. Once hailed as the "German Paganini" and revered across Europe, Spohr was a pivotal figure of early Romanticism – an innovator who shaped the transition from Classical refinement to Romantic expression. This collection showcases his string quintets, sextets, double quartets and "potpourri." BELOW: Louis Spohr's "Potpourri No. 2 in B flat major."
