This week Pirastro announced its newest strings for double bass: Perpetual 'Stark.'

"Mainly developed for pizzicato, the new Perpetual double bass strings were designed to provide the player with a comfortable left hand feel, fast articulate response, and strong energetic tone," says the description by Pirastro. "Using a new uniquely designed extremely flexible steel rope core, the Perpetual double bass strings provide incredible stability and tremendous power. With a little adjustment on the players end, the voice can be manipulated to suit a wide variety of styles. A powerful and focused low end gives way to a full, sophisticated upper register."
The Perpetual 'Stark' Double Bass Strings are chrome steel, wound on a uniquely designed and extremely flexible high-tensile steel rope core.
"They are the thickest strings in our steel string range, and yet their string tensions remain close to those of the Perpetual 'Mittel' strings," said Pirastro. Compared to Perpetual "Mittel" the 'Stark" strings are built to have a fuller and warmer sound with an especially high gauge, according to Pirastro. "Thanks to their special and highly elaborate construction, the new Double Bass Perpetual 'Stark' strings produce immense volume and can be played with surprising ease."
