On Wednesday Spanish violinist María Dueñas, 22, took home two major awards at the 2025 Gramophone Classical Music Awards in London: the Instrumental Award for her recording of Paganini: 24 Caprices; and Young Artist of the Year, an award sponsored by Classic FM.

"It’s a great pleasure and honor," said Dueñas, who also performed at the ceremony. "Thank you for believing in the power of youth and curiosity in the arts, thank you so much for this recognition."
Dueñas was not the only violin soloist who was honored; Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang won Gramophone's 'Concerto' Award for her recording of the Elgar Violin Concerto with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Robin Ticciati.

Vilde Frang's Elgar is fabulous. Can anyone doubt this piece is the greatest VC in the repertoire?

October 18, 2025 at 01:20 PM · The above-mentioned recording of the Krasinsky Codex is very nice! I greatly admire the scholarly art here of recording an entire manuscript in old notation (ca. 1420), no doubt much of it never recorded before and probably not played in centuries. Beautifully sung, I find great transport in this music!
