Congratulations to the Harlem Quartet, composer and violinist Jessie Montgomery and to all winners of 2024 Grammy Awards, which were announced Sunday at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
The Harlem Quartet, with violinists Ilmar Gavilán and Melissa White, violist Jaime Amador and cellist Felix Umansky, was awarded the GRAMMY in the category of Best Classical Compendium for Passion For Bach And Coltrane, a concert-length Passion oratorio by Jeff Scott that combines elements from classical and jazz music. Other artists on the album include pianist Alex Brown, bassist Edward Perez, drummer Neal Smith and orator A.B. Spellman.

Composer Jessie Montgomery was awarded the GRAMMY in the category of Best Contemporary Classical Composition for her composition "Rounds," performed by pianist Awadagin Pratt and the A Far Cry chamber orchestra on the album Stillpoint (you can listen to it there). On her website, Montgomery write that "Rounds" was "inspired by the imagery and themes from T.S. Eliot’s epic poem Four Quartets, fractals (infinite patterns found in nature that are self-similar across different scales), and the interdependency of all beings."
The GRAMMY for Best Orchestral Performance went to Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for Dante, a ballet score in three acts by Thomas Adès. (Listen here to Pt. I "Inferno": XII. The Thieves—devoured by reptiles).
