Bach - 300 Years Of Solitude
Sergey Malov, violin

Berlin-based violinist Sergey Malov - who also known for his virtuosity on the viola, baroque violin and cello da spalla - presents the complete Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach. "Around 300 years have passed since the creation of the ‘bible’ of violinists - the six sonatas and partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach," Sergey Malov said. "Even the title page raises a few puzzles: ‘Sei solo’ is grammatically incorrect in Italian when speaking of several solo pieces. Literally translated, however, it means ‘You are alone’, which could have a deeper meaning in this context. The year 1720, which is noted on the manuscript, also marks the death of Maria Barbara Bach, Johann Sebastian's wife. BELOW: Partita No. 3 in E Major: I. Preludio

December 30, 2024 at 04:40 PM · I think another perspective on these pieces is worthwhile even if there are already many available.

December 30, 2024 at 10:08 PM · In the photo of Sergey Malov he has an electric violin on the bench beside him and it's a design that I at first didn't recognize, but after another look I realized that it's just a common Yamaha YEV, but he's cut the "Mobius strip" body off of it. I thought that was a little interesting.
