The Week in Reviews, Op. 478: Charles Yang; Gidon Kremer; Handel & Haydn Society
In an effort to promote the coverage of live violin performance, Violinist.com each week presents links to reviews of notable concerts and recitals around the world.

Composer Kris Bowers and violinist Charles Yang.
Charles Yang performed Kris Bowers’ "For a Younger Self," with Markus Poschner conducting the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
- Texas Classical Review: "Yang’s part ranged from sweeping lyricism to agitated and virtuosic declamations that all stemmed from his opening motif, which was often echoed by the orchestra in the slower episodes....Yang’s performance was consistently impressive throughout, bringing unity and coherence to the three movements."
- Dallas Morning News: "The concerto is certainly a showpiece for violinist Charles Yang, for whom it was written and who played it here, brilliantly. He delivered gorgeous tone as readily in dazzling displays as in soaring lyricism."
Gidon Kremer performed Weinberg's Violin Concerto in G minor with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
- Arcana: "Gidon Kremer has championed the composer extensively in recent years and, while technical issues seemingly inhibited the respectively incisive and impetuous outer movements, the restless searching of its intermezzo-like Allegretto then confiding eloquence of its Adagio were abundantly in evidence."
The Handel & Haydn Society performed its 538th iteration of Handel's "Messiah."
- The Boston Musical Intelligencer: ".(Conductor Jonathan Cohen's) lively tempi felt just perfect, and the nearly three hours sped by thanks to the stunning musicianship of the singers and instrumentalists."
