Maria Ioudenitch performed Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto with the Apollo Orchestra.
- Washington Classical Review: "Ioudenitch made it soar, with a glowing, burnished tone poised between warmth and sadness, perfectly suiting Barber’s mood. The skipping, folkish second theme sounded fetching in the Apollo winds, and later in Ioudenitch’s violin."
Njioma Grevious and pianist Andrew Goodridge performed in recital for Cal Performances.
- San Francisco Classical Voice: "Grevious plays with a sensitive and supple bow arm, deep in the core of the violin’s strings for a tone that is both strong and active — a big sound that never gets stuck in its own power. "
The Brentano String Quartet performed works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Britten in an opening concert for Dallas Chamber Music.
- Dallas Morning News: "...the Brentano displayed finely honed ensemble sensitivities as well as individual brilliance. There wasn’t a dull moment."
Concertmaster Jeff Thayer performed Paganini’s Caprice No. 24 in the San Diego Symphony's first concert in its newly renovated Jacobs Music Center.
- San Diego Union-Tribune: "Concertmaster Jeff Thayer appeared in the house on the highest level to play Paganini’s Caprice no 24 in A minor. It was flawlessly executed by Thayer, every note distinctly heard from my ground floor seat. "
Miranda Cuckson and pianist Steven Beck performed Louis Karchin's "Sonata quasi un Capriccio" in a retrospective for the composer at Merkin Concert Hall.
- Sequenza 21: "violinist Miranda Cuckson (is) a longtime collaborator of Karchin’s. This association benefited both piece and performance, as the composer knows how reliable Cuckson is, even in stratospheric altissimo lines. 'Sonata quasi un Capriccio' is a white-hot piece filled with dramatic flair. It closed the first half."
The Ariel Quartet and the Takács Quartet performed separate concerts in Cincinnati.
- Cincinnati Business Courier: "It’s no secret that Cincinnati has a rich chamber music scene. To start off the new concert season, I sampled two exceptional chamber music series one week apart."
Cellist Steven Isserlis performed Dvorak's Cello Concerto with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
- Bach Track: "When he entered, instantly assuming centre stage, Steven Isserlis played with dramatic thrust and rhapsodic intensity, yet managed gorgeous sweetness for the lyrical second theme, and surging emotional warmth for the slow movement."
