Leonidas Kavakos performed Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the New York Philharmonic.
- New York Times: "He is a wonder. The music flowed out of him like a river — big, glistening and unobstructed, but also tasteful in its frictionless subtleties."
- Splash Magazines: "Mr. Kavakos, a still relatively young native of Athens, could not have made his city’s founding goddess prouder with the innate wisdom, technical dazzle, immeasurable concentration, and sheer physical stamina it took to provide as clear a rendition of the beleaguered Soviet composer’s 1948 first foray with that instrument in a concerto with full orchestra."
Augustin Hadelich performed Britten’s Violin Concerto with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
- The Boston Musical Intelligencer: "Thursday he was sweet, bittersweet, anguished, and sorrowful by turns. In the middle of the Moderato con moto, as the timpani rhythm in the orchestra became more insistent, his agitation suggested a world coming unglued. Nelsons created a lush, languid Spanish flavor in the recapitulation, and then Hadelich soared into the stratosphere, trying to stop time even as the timpani rhythm ticked on."
Bella Hristova performed Bruch's Scottish Fantasy with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, in longtime music director Jaime Laredo's final concert with the orchestra.
- Rutland Herald: "Like other Laredo students, her style is her own, but her devotion to the music was fostered by her teacher....The Scottish folk songs the work is based on were delivered with Hristova’s silvery singing tone, and the pyrotechnics were played cleanly and with flare."
