The Week in Reviews, Op. 327: Francisco Fullana; Patricia Kopatchinskaja; Stefani Matsuo
In an effort to promote the coverage of live violin performance, Violinist.com each week presents links to reviews of notable concerts and recitals around the world.

Violinist Francisco Fullana.
Francisco Fullana performed Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" with Apollo’s Fire.
- Chicago Classical Review: "Fullana’s performance struck a perfect balance between soloistic bravado and sensitive ensemble playing. A joy to watch, he maintained an improvisatory quality, practically acting through his violin, all while maintaining technical perfection and sweetness of tone on his 1735 instrument. "
Patricia Kopatchinskaja performed with cellist Sol Gabetta at Queen Elizabeth Hall.
- The Guardian: "These two star players turn music into conversation, fast, ironic, teasing and empathic. Having landed, they burst straight into Leclair’s Tambourin in C, a rowdy 18th-century stomp that in other hands can sound all too refined (it was so characterful in theirs, I didn’t recognise it as a work I already knew)."
Stefani Matsuo performed the the Scherzo movement from Brahms’ “F-A-E” Sonata with pianist Drew Petersen, at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's opening concert at Music Hall.
- Cincinnati Business Journal: "This scherzo flew like the wind, and their phrases were full of mystery and color. Their lyrical, sublime collaboration left me wanting more."
Charles Castleman performed Dvorák’s Violin Concerto with the Frost Symphony Orchestra.
- South Florida Classical Review: "Unlike the cooler, more objective style of many contemporary violinists, Castleman’s approach is unabashedly romantic and interpretive. In the tradition of Fritz Kreisler, Albert Spalding and Russian violinists of earlier vintage, he is unafraid to bend a phrase or vary vibrato in order to enhance a score’s impact."
Samuel Andonian performed in recital with pianist Alice Chenyang Xu at Music for Peace of Massachusetts Peace.
- The Boston Musical Intelligencer: " Andonian...delivered a sonorous, sweet tone and masterful phrasing, auguring many more appearances."
