Yesterday, I had my first rehearsal with "Kleine Stadtmusik" (a tongue-in-cheek reference to the famous piece by Mozart, literal translation: small town music - also apt, because Marktheidenfeld really is a small town).
After my workplace was shifted from Bamberg to Nuremberg several years ago, I could no longer play with my beloved VHS Chamber Orchestra in Bamberg or the Chamber Music Circle in nearby Bischberg, where I had so manyjoyful musical experiences.
Having moved again, I searched the internet for a local amateur orchestra and found the abovementioned group. Yesterday, I went there for the first time. Due to illness and vacation, several members were missing, but two first violins, two second violins, three violas and one cello turned up. A bass clarinet and a flute completed the group and I was invited to join the first violin section.
We played some Haydn (divertimenti, but not the famous ones), part of Paul Juon's "Little Symphony" op. 87 in a minor, a slip jig and finally "Bare Necessities". All pieces were fun to play and since I'd never heard of Paul Juon before, I also met a new composer - WOW! After the long hiatus, I dropped some notes and had some minor intonation and bowing problems, but I got accepted by the group and am looking forward to the rehearsal next Monday.
Life without music isn't worth living, so I'm very happy to have found a new group for regular ensemble playing.
