Well this year has been turbulent in terms of my private life. Had a lot of stuff going on and had a bit of a love-hate relationship with music as a result. However, during the dark periods this year, I decided to try and follow/start things that were unrelated to music (in terms of career). But none have brought me the satisfaction of music. My new perspective is helping motivate me in ways that I hadn't been for a long time.
As a result of this renewed enthusiasm, I got a new viola teacher recently (partly because of a suggestion from my theory teacher). Now the the teacher I had before was not bad, I learnt a lot from him. Nor is it because we didn't have a good relationship. His charges were too high (once in a while was fine, but not every week) and the distance he lived away from me (around 50 miles, and as a non driver I had to rely on other people to drive me there and back).
This new one is closer, cheaper and I can commute there by myself. I'm looking to go to conservatoire in the UK in coming years. I get that it will be a long old slog, and I will likely be one of the oldest people in the year, but it will have been worth it!
