Wound gut a-string?

November 3, 2024, 9:07 PM · Hi everyone! This is my first post on this site after registering eight years ago.

I’m an amateur violinist and college student who recently started experimenting with gut strings. I had a good experience with a set of medium Tricolores (plain gut varnished d and a) over the summer. I’d like to try wound gut in the future but my understanding is selecting a good a string is tricky. A lot of violinists seem to have had a bad experience with the Oliv and Eudoxa a string. Does anyone have any recommendations for wound gut a strings (especially if they go well with Oliv or Eudoxa lower strings which I’m hoping to try soon).

Thanks!
