Back in April, I discussed a 72-hour album jam I participated in, and as of the start of this month, the full album has been released for the public! You can check it outI played violin and cello in the first track, cello in the third track, and arranged, mixed, and played violins and piano in the fourth track.
One thing I've learned about myself during my time at graduate school is how much I enjoy group projects or collaborations, where a team of people can come together to make something beautiful. This of course happens for many musicians (especially string players) playing in the orchestra or even playing solo pieces in the hall with a pianist. For me, although the actual recording was to a click track and I was only playing alongside computerized instruments, hearing the whole album come together made it feel as if we really did all come together in the same room to record it. It just shows the power of the VGM community, and I think that's what I love so much about being a part of this album in particular.
Besides the album itself, I also released a YouTube video for my track - Click here! I will say, this track is definitely out of my comfort zone as a classical musician... but I think it came out alright in the end.
Sorry there's not much for this month's entry... but I hope you enjoy listening if you choose to! I've got so much planned to write about in July, so please stay tuned for that - more albums to discuss and share, a chamber ensemble project I am hoping to lead with my strings students (bringing me back to my Conducting classes!), and finally, long overdue, taking my violin in for its check-up. But I'll save those details for separate entries in the next few months, and I'll have a lot more to say then.
