Geoff Nuttall's final recordings with SLSQ released

Edited: August 13, 2023, 11:13 PM · Geoff Nuttall, the unparalleled first violinist of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, died last fall at age 56 from pancreatic cancer. Amazingly, during his illness he was able to record two last records with his friends.

They are exceptional recordings, both for their brilliance and for the flashes of humanity that the recording engineer left in.

August 14, 2023, 9:53 PM · Geoff Nuttall was my age within a few months. I'm glad I was able to see him here in Blacksburg. Does anyone know if there's any discussion of the future of the SLSQ? It's got to be difficult -- they're all great players, but Nuttall's personality was larger than life.

August 14, 2023, 9:59 PM · Paul, that's the million-dollar question (or would be, if musicians made what they should). I'm sure there's been discussion. There haven't been any public announcements. The university has given them a couple of years to sort it out.
