Boston Youth orchestras

Edited: February 26, 2023, 3:39 PM · I was with BYSO (GBYSO back in the day) and know the guy who used to conduct NEC YPO until he was pushed out. Not sure who is running that now.

BYSO is an interesting outfit that puts on an opera every year and has a whole string of junior orchestras. The music director is very fine.

At a higher level just because it includes undergrads, the Boston Philharmonic YO does great work.

One thing to consider is what day of the week rehearsals shall be.

Less of a consideration, because the orchestras now coordinate to stop kids from jumping, is that they do foreign tours in different years. Not sure if any are better than the others at that.

February 27, 2023, 4:51 AM · Another potential consideration is what else you want the student to be doing. If a teacher is at NEC and teaching on Saturday, that may make a huge difference logistically. BYSO isn't an entire conservatory, but they have made big steps to expand their program. Especially after Longy School got removed from teaching local kids by their new masters at Bard College.

She's at NEC on Saturdays, so Stephen is right, just wanted hear about BYSO.
