Rondo Viola Strings

December 15, 2022, 7:09 PM · My viola likes low tension on the C and G. I currently have Dominants which sound open, clear, and resonant with excellent response. On the other hand, she prefers higher tension on the D and A where I currently have EP Green (med.) D and Larsen Original (strong) A. They have good power and brilliance. No major complaints with this set up. But I am looking for more evenness and color across the set. I am thinking about Rondos. Anybody try them?

There’s a lot of richness on the lower end without loss of projection and good balance throughout. Interestingly, they don’t feel like high tension under the fingers—they’re very comfortable. That being said, they don’t produce the same results on every viola. Certainly worth trying.

If your current setup requires higher tension on one side to balance the sound, you may very well need some adjustment to the setup before changing strings to get the best results.
