Dramatic solo violin pieces
I am making a short film with my friends as a project, they suggested me providing some violin music and asked for a dramatic piece (as one girl in the film kills her own sister... yeah, brutal). The piece should be for solo violin.
(My friends wanted something like Vivaldi's Summer Presto)
Thanks for any suggestions!
Actually the Vivaldi is not a bad idea. Play it like murder instead of a buggy garden.
Schönberg violin concerto might be even more brutal than the murder.
Erlkoenig in Ernst's arrangement
Ysaye second Sonata first and last movememt would fit perfectly. Very brutal!
If this is a non-commercial project just for fun, you can watch old horror movies and "borrow" the sound effect.
Erlkönig is actually a pretty good idea!
Yeah, Erlkonig is a great idea!
You might consider the following:
Tuneful options: Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole. Or Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen.
Thanks for all the suggestions! I took a look at the Erlkönig, looks great!
You should keep in mind its an advanced piece, not easy to play well.
The bit in the first movement of Mendelssohn, climaxing in the ascending diminished sevenths octaves. Perfect for when the victim screams twice ...
For pure solo (no accompaniment), Ysaye #2 is a great choice. Also an arrangement of the Toccata and Fugue allegedly by Bach. I have one that needs a bit of thinning out in the very beginning but could otherwise be very effective in a resonant acoustic.
Sonata Op. 134, II/III- D. Shostakovich
I'm amazed that nobody has mentioned Ravel Tzigane yet.
