Violin piece long forgotten, but played again

April 17, 2021, 1:26 PM · While thumbing through my collection of violin pieces, I decided to pull Massenet's Meditation from Thais. I have not played this piece in a long time, but playing it again rekindled my fondness for this piece. Do you have a piece that you haven't played in a while, but suddenly find yourself playing again and enjoying?

April 17, 2021, 6:54 PM · Greetings,
having just smooched my way through Rodney Friend’s greta new book on fifths I decided to work on the concept some more using the Gigue from the E major partita. It’s often said to be the easiest Bach movement. For some reason I hated it when I had to learn it for a graded exam as a child. I think my frustration with it was that in many ways I don’t think the piece in of itself is that easy to play absolutely flawlessly. Even when it ha s been mastered one can keep coming back to it and applying rules like left hand timing, holding down fifths, switching from on to off the string (if you do that) and of course, the style is important. IFor me it works as an absolutely charming laboratory where one can work on these things without having to worry about the sheer level of technical difficulty.
Cheers,
Buri
