Shorter showpieces for competitions?
I'm in need of recommendations for impressive yet short pieces for a competition. The first round only allows 6 minutes which limits the repertoire considerably. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to avoid that one Wieniawski piece if possible...
It's a well known competition & I'm in my final year of a BMus, so challenging = good!
Do you mean the Polonaise Brilliante? That's a good choice. but yeah it's played to death. Just watched a YouTube where it was played by a twelve-year-old boy. In under 6 minutes.
How bout this bad boy?
Ronde des Lutins is about five minutes long, four minutes if you’re Heifetz.
Bloch Nigun shows off musical virtuosity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vA3zsAgo0A
Kreisler Tambourin Chinois
If you don't mind a slow tune, and have nerves of steel, Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Tárrega. Less than 4 minutes here:
The Ysaye Ballade ? I dont know much about competitions really.
The Sarasate Malaguena is great, And about 5:40.
