Identification of partial sheet music
Can anyone identify the music printed here:
It's used as a stationery print so the obscured area below the middle is the plastic strip that wraps around a card box. Thanks!
OK, I cannot identify it, but I like trying to narrow it down by the clues in the music. It is not a solo, and the 3/8 movement starting down the page is a Corrente (hard to read, but...), which I think puts this before 1800, probably before 1770. The style is not consistent in rhythm, though, so while many of the figures would be at home in the baroque, they wouldn't have had all those tempo changes. Harmonically and melodically this is all consistent with 18th-c. writing. The figure at the beginning has a definite "Italiante" feel to it... I will go with Telemann or maybe CPE Bach. Early Haydn maybe? I await my comeuppance...
Thanks to the mysterious contributor who sent it to me privately!
This is a very good sonata. Strongly recommended, much more inspired than most of the concertos that violin students are asked to study.
