Shipping a violin

August 17, 2020, 3:34 PM · I recently moved to an apartment, but I did not have room to bring my violin with me. My family will be shipping it to me and I've already prepared the violin with foam blocks and such before I left. Can anyone tell me which of the three major couriers you would recommend? I should note that I was notified that any package too large to fit in my mailbox that is shipped USPS will have to be picked up from the post office.

August 17, 2020, 4:11 PM · What Bruce said. FedEx, preferably overnight, and signature required....although a violin was once shipped to me, signature required, and I came home from work to discover the carton sitting on my porch in plain sight from the street. Bit of a heart-stopping moment, that was.
Edited: August 17, 2020, 6:07 PM · The one time I had a viola shipped to me I had it done cushioned within a "suspension" case and all that in a shipping box. I ordered the case and paid for it.

That's how I got my double (violin/viola) case at the maker's discount price.
