Shipping a violin
I recently moved to an apartment, but I did not have room to bring my violin with me. My family will be shipping it to me and I've already prepared the violin with foam blocks and such before I left. Can anyone tell me which of the three major couriers you would recommend? I should note that I was notified that any package too large to fit in my mailbox that is shipped USPS will have to be picked up from the post office.
Fedex. Overnight if it is a really expensive instrument, otherwise 2 day, but not over the weekend (it may sit in a warehouse.) Ask your insurance company if the instrument will be covered if shipped.
What Bruce said. FedEx, preferably overnight, and signature required....although a violin was once shipped to me, signature required, and I came home from work to discover the carton sitting on my porch in plain sight from the street. Bit of a heart-stopping moment, that was.
The one time I had a viola shipped to me I had it done cushioned within a "suspension" case and all that in a shipping box. I ordered the case and paid for it.
FedEx it is, then.
I dont get damage problems with USPS and theyre cheaper than fedex but now with the changes who knows??
Donald don't allow no fiddle playing around here...
