Violin vigil

July 13, 2020, 8:01 PM · This is not political... this tugs at my heart as a musician and violinist.

Can anyone that was there share the backstory of
who/how organized the vigil?

July 13, 2020, 9:47 PM · We weren't able to go because my son had a (virtual) concert, but I know a bit of the backstory. The organizers were able to connect with a lot of important groups in Chicago, from Chicago Sinfionetta (Chicago's diverse orchestra) to Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, and even people like Rachel Barton Pine. Basically it just went viral. The organizers were really excellent -- they arranged a set of works and then created parts for all strings (violin 1 & 2, viola, cello, and bass). It was incredibly well done. The only challenging part is that they were denied a permit so technically the event was illegal.
