Luthiers, is this normal?

Is it normal that the fingerboard doesn’t sit flush with the neck, I can see a 1 or 2 mm gap.

July 12, 2020, 4:18 PM · Normal. That's so when someone replaces the board and has to plane the front of the neck a bit they won't plane off any of the front of the peg box.

July 13, 2020, 2:14 PM · While this may not be "normal" on an inexpensive instrument, it is generally considered to be the preferred method by those in the high-level trade, for reasons that Micheal has already explained.
