Tips for the opening of Sibelius Violin Concerto
Does anyone have any tips or exercises to help make the opening of the Sibelius Violin Concerto more "steady"? The long and slow bowing, continuous vibrato, and steady volume make it more difficult to keep balanced.
The classical "son filé" exercise, or exercises such as Kreutzer no.1?
That is a bow control issue, and is far from the most difficult aspect of the Sibelius. If you're struggling with bow control, I think Jean's suggestion is a good one--maybe step away from Sibelius for a short time while you get your right hand/arm up to speed? I'm just guessing here but it's not unusual for a student's left hand to be more advanced than the right hand at a certain stage and the wise teacher chooses repertoire to equalize the hands.
