What are some pieces for violin that feature a codetta ending ? Is the ending to the FAE sonata movement (Brahms's scherzo) a coda or codetta? Is the purpose of a codetta to signify a false ending to a piece?
A codetta is simply a short coda. The purposes are the same but a codetta is more abrupt.
The term concetta is usually applied to the section that ends the exposition in a sonata form, following the second theme (in Mozart or Haydn and very often in romantic music as well this would be right before the repeat sign).
