Tourte Bridge

April 29, 2020, 9:56 AM · Hello, I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this time.

I’m just wondering if anyone has used or knows anything about the Tourte bridge. When I bought my violin it came with a George Heinl bridge which I have found to be much higher than bridges on other people’s violins. There were also 2 unmarked bridges and 1 Tourte bridge in the case. My previous violin teacher also pointed out that my violin isn’t as responsive and it’s difficult to create a large dynamic range. Would a lower bridge help? I’ve only had online lessons with my new teacher so he can’t give an opinion yet.

Thanks for your time.

Unfortunately, lowering the bridge alone will likely not help your case. A well fit and carved bridge in conjunction with a properly carved and fit post will help optimize the potential of your violin.
