Need help with a violin solo.

Edited: January 26, 2020, 9:26 PM · Hey folks,

I recently joined the forum and started violin several months ago. I was curious if anybody could help me “tab” or write out this small violin solo for my group. I come from a guitar background, and realize it is different. Still, if anybody could help me out I’d appreciate it very much! I think this solo is in the key of A and mostly on the E string, but it’s not sounding correct. The solo starts at 2:20.

The tune is in A major as you said. The entire solo takes place within the A major scale. The starting sequence is A A G# F#, where the the A, A, and G# are pickup notes to the F# which is on a downbeat. The F# is riding on top of a D (IV) chord. The highest note is C# which is being fingered in third position (3 on the E string).

I'm assuming since you're a guitar player you can figure out the chords.

For others, the violin solo starts at 2:18. I created a comment in the YouTube so that you can click where it says "2:18" and it will take you to that spot.

A general hint for figuring out fiddle solos, especially in violin-friendly keys, is to listen for the open strings.

'playback speed' feature on YouTube, you would learn much by transcribing this solo.
