Ysaye op 28 transcription

July 14, 2019, 11:07 AM · Hello. I have recently bought a viola transcription/arrangenent of Ysayes sonata for solo cello. How difficult, technically, is this compared to his 6 violin sonatas?
Thanks in advance.

It doesn't sound great on viola, probably due to the lack of the low range from cello, especially in the 3rd movement.

There is already an official viola edition of Britten's three cello suites, but some of the majesty of the 'cello A-string is lost on the viola's strident equivalent.
