$29 string set claimed to perform like Dominants

April 12, 2019, 11:32 AM · Fiddlershop in Florida has started selling a private-label $29 string set that they claim is comparable to Dominants.

If it's true, this might be a good option for students or budget-conscious folk.

I don't use Dominants so I can't offer an opinion, but I've dealt with Fiddlershop -- they're legit.

Review of the strings

April 12, 2019, 1:19 PM · I tried them a few years ago, and they were pretty good. They were the first synthetic I used, I switched from Prelude to this set with the Hill E. From what I remember they sounded similar to when I tried Dominants later, though strings didn't make a huge difference on that particular violin. I agree with the violinstringreview website. Tonica is supposed to be similar at a low cost, too.
Edited: April 12, 2019, 1:29 PM · Thanks for mentioning Tonica. A really nice low-cost composite string, around $35-40 a set, fast break-in, easy to play on. Not a big sound but very solid.
April 13, 2019, 1:41 AM · Seems like Tonica would be a better choice for very close to the same amount.
