Joseph Bologne, Le Chevalier de Saint Georges
I am looking for information about his violin concertos. Are they about the same difficulty level to play? Are some more popular than others? Where would you place them in the repertoire as far as learning them?
And where can you get the sheet music other IMSLP?
They are nice pieces. I have not played them, but I suspect they are not the most difficult in the repertoire. For sheet music, I am not sure. Sheetmusicplus.com and shar.com don't seem to have them.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Saint Georges composed at least 10 violin concertos. Six of them have been recorded by Qian Zhou and Nishizaki, on the Naxos label I believe.
Further investigation reveals some recordings of Saint Georges' works on YouTube. Here are four of his violin concertos performed by Jean-Jacques Kantorow:
Trevor and Nuuska - thank you. I am still hoping to find out if there are some favorites but I perhaps the ones on youtube are the favorites. I will have to compare to be certain but I think the youtube videos and the sheet music available are matching up.
