What is this weird side-mounted chin rest with bumps?

Edited: September 29, 2018, 6:32 PM · Hi everyone,
I've noticed that some violins and violas I've come across come with this odd side-mounted chinrest with small bumps on the surface. It sits completely to the left of the tailpiece and it's very low. Can anyone identify this chinrest?
Thanks in advance.
PS. I'd love to post a picture, but can't find one.
