"BUTLER, Frank Hudson Born 1898 Ranger, Worked from 1936 Premont, Texas USA. Amateur maker, using 1715 Stradivari ‘Alard’ violin as a model. Decent materials and craftsmanship…."

Henley's Universal Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers said it this way:
"Enthusiastic Amateur. Residdent at Premont (Texas)
Carefully made violins--generally modeled on the Alard Strad. Good wood (subjected to electric currents to test its endurance and tone-resonance)--and oil varnish."

A replica label is shown with the notation --"( printed as though written)"

If you put all this information together it sounds like he started making violins in 1936 at the age of 38 and continued for 10 years.
