Stravinsky and Chanson Russe
I have a few questions about Chanson Russe written by Stravinsky for the opera Mavra. Does anyone have the lyrics for this piece in English? If not, do you know what the piece is about? I know that Parasha was sitting embroidering at a window, singing the song which starts oh my dearest... but not much more. Also, do you know whether Stravinsky could play the violin?
I’m doing this for a Violin exam and think that knowing the background will help.
Stravinsky had to ask his friend Samuel Dushkin regarding the feasibility of the passport chords of his Violin Concerto in D, so I don't think he did or if he did, wasn't too good. Wikipedia says his main instrument was the piano.
Thank you both. K Ch is that the whole song? It has 6 changes between 3 keys, The five flat section sounds very sad and introspective, but I wondered what the words were for the two flat and one flat sections as their moods sound very different....
Very much the whole song
Actually, there if i look to music now:
Thanks again :)
